I am trying to set up a Windows 2000 VPN Server.
I have a home network which is behind a LinkSys
BEFSR41 Etherfast Cable/DSL Router. My server has
only 1 NIC. Do I need 2? 1 for the Internet
interface and 1 for the LAN? I heard many mixed
answers regarding this. Is it possible to set it
up with 1? I want to stay away from using 2 NIC's
because my router is already acting as the go
between for the internet and LAN. Why should I
have another?
I try to setup the VPN server
by using the Routing and Remote Access Wizard. My
2 choices are "No Internet Connection" or "LAN
Connection". It won't let me choose "LAN
Connection" because it says. "You have chosen the
last available connection as the internet
connection. A VPN server requires that one
connection be used as the private network
connection.
Please help... I am so
frustrate because I have been searching forums
everywhere to only find mixed answers. Thank
You:)
P.S. Also after that part is
finished, I noticed many people had trouble with
the "port forwarding" on the linksys router. I
updated the latest firmware so I hope it goes
smoothly once I get past the first obsticle. Any
advice is much appreciated. Thanks. |

Bryan,
You never
want to multi-home a
server. Yes you can do
it with 1 NIC. You
just need to configure
NAT for the server on the
firewall.
cheers, Dr.
