I'm currently trying to set up a VPN with a coworker. We both are cable modem users. We just found out that our ISP is choking out VPNs. Is there a way around this? How can they shut down VPNs. Is the port hardcoded for VPNs or can we change it for our use on a as needed basis? We just want to get this to work.

Robert,
Unfortunately, cable companies do have the power to block VPN traffic.
For MS vpns they may be clocking is port 1732 and the GRE protocol. If
you are using IPSEC VPNs they may be blocking protocols 50 & 51.
We'll look into workarounds and post to VPNlabs.org.

g ood luck,
