vpn access to corp intranet w/ satellite
----------
I am going to be the first according to our IT department to try setting up for vpn access from my home using any of the two way satellite systems.

I will be using the Hughes Direcway through Earthlink. We use Nortel Networks Extranet Access Client for accessing our intranet.

What do I need to find out from both my IT department and the satellite service provider regarding protocols and such to determine if this is going to work?

Any input or suggestions are appreciated.

Nortel VPN client
----------
I'm very interested in hearing how this process goes with the satellite connection.
I would go ahead and try and run the client first and see what happens, usually it works on the first try.
The latency from the satellite connection may affect the timeout settings that your Network Admins will set in the Contivity Extranet manager. It's similar to running the client from a long run phone line.
Please post back and let us know what happens and if there are any difficulties or if it goes smoothly.
Good luck,
Phil

Sprint Latency

We use the same Extranet Client at our company -

The latency is a problem however one way to minimize this is to "disable" keep alives in the extranet options.

I'm also new to VPN and it is my current project to implement VPN through a satellite.

I do hope it works for us.
