internet thru VPN ---------- I though someone on this
forum might be able to
answer a technical
question.
I have
one server which connect
to my building and
obtains a static-IP
address (used to access
internet). I have
Windows 2000 server on
this machine. This
machine has two Ethernet
cards and serves as my
VPN. I configured
Routing and Remote
Access, NAT, and this
machine also handles DHCP
for my other workstations
on my network.
Everything is
working properly. All
the IP filters are setup
and all my workstations
receive internet access
from the server. I can
utilize all network
resources locally on all
workstations. I can
connect to the VPN from a
remote location and also
access my network
resources.
The
only problem is that I
can not access the
internet from a remote
computer. I do not wish
to utilize the remote
internet connection for
browsing (the connection
I am using to establish
the VPN connection). I
would rather use the
internet resources from
my office network. When
I view the TCP/IP
settings on the remote
computer, it has a
gateway IP that is equal
to the DHCP IP my remote
computer is issued.
Somehow, I need to get
this to be the gateway of
my network so I can
access the internet, I
think...
Does
anyone know of how to
resolve this? I was told
that because I have one
server handling
everything, that there
may not be a way to get
internet access on the
remote workstation.

I may be incorrect, is
that you are trying to
conenct to the internet,
using the REMOTE servers
Internet connection,
whilst you have a VPN
connection to
it.
To solve this
goto your VPN connection
icon, Goto NETWORKING
tab,then goto the TCP/IP
properties, click
ADVANCED, then select the
check box here to use the
remote servers Internet
connection, if you want
to use your own dial up
connection then uncheck
this box.
The
reason you see the the
incorrect IP in the PPP
adaptor config, is due t
othe fact that the server
issues this IP to you,
and so the config of the
gateway will be the same
as the IP it issued you,
this is the case with all
DIAL up
adaptors.
hope
this helps |
