Making multiple connections?
----------
Hello,
I don't know how to ask this, since my friends and I are totally new to this VPN stuff...

We all are running Windows XP Professional. We can connect to each other through VPN, via the Internet IP addy of the Host Computer. However, we cannot connetc more than one at a time.
In other words. When Hosting Incoming Connections(VPN) on a Host Computer. Only one Client computer can connect at a time(secoond user gets error message when trying to connect stating This Connection is already in use). Is there a way to get around this?

Multiple WinXP VPN connections

Mike,
You are going to need to get a router that has VPN capabilities. WinXP can't be used as a VPN server by itself. If you have a computer that has Win2000 server on it, you can use that as your VPN server. I would recommend purchasing inexpensive VPN routers for each endpoint.

Thank you

Thanks for your response. We will look into prchasing a Router for this operation.

So can I assume that the Router with VPN support only needs to be connected to the Host Computer? Then all clients specified can connect to it?

Reson I ask is because you say something asbout haveing the Router on each endpoint? Are you saying that everyone that wants to be on this VPN we are building has to have a Router?

Multiple VPN connections

For every network where you want to access data, you'll need to have a VPN router.
It really depends what kind of topology you want.
Type A: Hub and Spoke
Is there one network that everyone is trying to access? Or,
Type B: Mesh
Does everyone want to be able to access everyone elses network?
For type A you'll just need a VPN server with VPN client software.
For type B each location will need a VPN router, but not a VPN server.

For inexpensive VPN servers, I recommend checking out SnapGear. They have some appliances that are only a few hundred bucks.

Does this help?

cheers,
P hil
