You may want to try this
----------
Hi! What do you mean you can't see any drive that is shared? Do you mean like you are trying to browse them on your network neighborhood? This is possible but with the router's latest firmware version. For the mean time, you may want to try doing this: Go to Start-Run then type // then the IP address of the computer you are trying to access from a remote location. Just trying to help. Good luck!

Check This Information
----------
Hi. again! Well, you did the right thing on how to access your remote PC. However, there is an error you need to resolve which is "There are currently no logon servers available" as you said. You can resolve this problem by accessing this website http://support.microsoft. com/default.aspx?scid=kb; EN-US;q139410
There is an explanation there why this error occurred and how you can resolve it. I hope this can help.

Just clearing things out

Hi! May I ask waht kind of linksys routers are you using from both sides of the tunnel? If you are using a BEFSR41 then you also need to enable PPTP together with IPSec Passthrough. Plus, you need to forward the ports that is being used by the VPN Client Software that you are using. Then try again the start-run // then the IP address of the computer you want to access. However, if you are using linksys VPN router (BEFVP41), then you don't have to forward any port, plus you don't need the VPN client software anymore. You just have to check if the computers you are accessing is included in your remote secure group. You can check that on the VPN Tab of the router's config utility.

BEFSR41
----------
I am using a linksys BEFSR41 at both ends I have Ispec and pptp passthrough enabled I didnt open any ports I thought with a software VPN you didn't have to worry about ports? what ports do i open for windows 2000 to windows 2000?

Thanks Again!!
you have been very helpful and I apprecaite it!

YOU'RE ALWAYS WELCOME!
----------
Since you are using both linksys routers to establish a VPN connection, you may want to try setting the L2TP ports to 0, i think that is an option found on VPN client software itself. Because i think linksys routers only support PPTP and IPSec. That is why you have to set in the VPN software that you are just utilizing PPTP and IPSec, not L2TP. For more information on troubleshooting this router-to-router VPN setup, try this URL:

http://suppor t.microsoft.com/search/pr eview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us; Q308208#3

With regards to the ports that is needed to be forwarded, you may check on the software itself. I think windows 2000 VPN Server software is capable of establishing VPN without a router. However, that is quite complicated. Please post what are the results you got after trying my suggestion, so we can dig a little more on this problem and try another option if this still does'nt work. Thanks for appreciating my suggestions.

PS
----------
Try also forwarding UDP Port 500 on both sides of the tunnel.

Server Or Proff?
----------
Hi:
Correct me if i'm wrong
I am running 2 windows 2000 proff machines can i set up a vpn from one to the other or do i need to be running windows 2000 server?I guess what I'm asking is Can a windows 2000 proff machine be a vpn server? There doesn't seem to be anywhere to setup the vpn server settings in the routing and remote access from windows 2000 proff.

Win2K prof to Win2K prof VPN
----------
Hi! This time, I wanna make sure this article that I'll be referring to you could really help you. And, yes! You can setup a VPN connection using Windows 2000 Professional. Try this URL, http://support.microsoft. com/default.aspx?scid=kb; EN-US;q257333#6

I hope this one could finally help you.
By the way, here are the ports that should be forwarded: UDP 500, 1723 and 47. Windows 2000 proff is only capable of establishing one VPN connection at a time. The server i am referring to is not Windows 2000 Server. What i meant using the word server is that one end of the VPN tunnel should be acting as a VPN server and the other end as a VPN client. Sorry, if I confused you.

----------
HI:
That is the exact artical i used to setup up the VPN.It says that i connected successfully and i see an icon at the bottom of the screen that say's I'm Connected But, i cant see any shared resources or folders.I tryed //ip address i tryed UNC shared names through explorer i also tryed network neighborhood there is nothing there but my local shares.I nevere opened any ports on the router I will try that.Although it seems to me that I would have never have connected had they not been opened.
Thanks Again!
I will try opening the ports

Making the Connection!
----------
Hi
It seems I have been making the connection but cant view any resources i tryed opening those ports listed same thing.if i run ipconfig when connected i get the ip addres info for 2 connections the lan and the ppp connection i was assigned an ip address fromremote router. If i goto netork connections it says status connected.bytes recieved and sent no errors. i still cant see anything in network neighborhood or run //ip address. Why can't i see anything under neighborhood? it did'nt matter if those ports were opened or closed it's the same thing it connectes to remote pc using ppp successfully but there are no resources available?

Tha nks!

Did you share the files?
----------
Hi! Did you share the files or the folders you are trying to access? You know, like right-clicking it and go to sharing? I know this is just a simple question but, sometimes, simple things get missed out.

Question
----------
Hi! I wanna make sure of one thing before I give you one solution that I have right now. After having the VPN connection, have you initially logged on to the computer and tried working offline? Have you heard anything about cached credentials?
Please let me know your answers so that I would know if this one thing on my mind could work.

cached credentials?
----------
Hi:
No i am not familiar with cached credentials. Are you talking about setting files to be accessable when offline? If i logon after the vpn I will lose the connection? Heres my steps i logon to my domain or local pc then i click on the dialup vpn client i setup and make a connection to the remote pc acting as the vpn server.
