network ---------- Hi,
I am based in
South Africa and does
online marketing, web
design and hosting for my
clients here. I host on
servers in North America
as our local ISP's are
just not up to standard
as far as I am
concerned.
In
November one of my
clients of 4 years
advised me that they are
setting up a VPN which is
a good thing I am all for
it.
They got a
third party company to
set up their VPN - the
purpose of course is to
improve communications
internally and mainly
sort out and standardise
the email.
The VPN
consultants advised my
client that they need our
DNS to point to their
servers - if they do not
have control over the DNS
aparently they cannot
take
responsibility.
I
am no expert in VPN but
as far as I understood,
they changed the DNS to
point to the hosting
company of their choice
and pointed the A-records
back to the servers in
North America so that we
could continue to do the
hosting where we have it
right now.
The
company in North America
requires the DNS to point
to their servers and
between the two companies
we do not seem to get a
decent answer.
As
a result I have no idea
where the servers are
pointing to at this
stage.
I am
looking for a third
opinion on this topic.
We have been facing a lot
of problems since the DNS
have been changed to the
VPN consultants'
preferred hosting
company.
The
clients' web site was
also down for more than a
week between Xmas and New
year and it cost us
dearly as far as rankings
were concerned.
I
would really appreciate
some input from
independant
consultants.
Let
me know if you need more
info - I will give you
what I have.
Kind
regards Marinda
Botha
